From time to time the Council commissions or undertakes research on economics topics that appear to merit close examination. Research is only carried out when the Council recognises it would be in the general interest for the project to be done by the Council rather than any other body. It is usual for the Council to seek funds from external sources to fund this and to appoint a Steering Group. The results of such projects are normally published by the Council.
