July 15th: Lord Forsyth - The British Economy - not forgetting the Scottish one
Lord Forsyth of Drumlean, Secretary of State for Scotland (1995-1997), Chairman of the 2006 Conservative Tax Reform Commission, will give us his perspective on the fortunes of the British and Scottish economies.

About Lord Forsyth
Michael Bruce Forsyth was born in Montrose and educated in Arbroath and at the University of St. Andrews, where he became involved in student politics. He began his political career as a member of Westminster City Council (1978-83), first entered parliament for Stirling in the 1983 election, which he represented until losing his seat in the 1997 election. In 1997, he received a knighthood and in 1999 was elevated to the House of Lords given a life peerage as Baron Forsyth of Drumlean, of Drumlean in Stirling. In 2006, he was appointed Chairman of the Conservative Party's Tax Reform Commission, culminating in this report - Tax Matters: Reforming the Tax System.

John Authers took over as investment editor of the Financial Times in September 2006. He writes the daily Short View column, the Long View column, which appears every Saturday, and the Last Word column for FT Fund Management, which appears monthly.
